BECOME A NONPROFIT BOARD MEMBER!
or
ENHANCE YOUR CURRENT BOARD SKILLS!

Over the last decade, Greater DC Cares has emerged as the region’s leading board training and matching organization. We have trained over 800 professionals who either currently serve on nonprofit boards or are interested in doing so about the duties and responsibilities of a nonprofit board member.  Of those looking to be matched, we have placed 225 professionals on the boards of 125+ nonprofits throughout the greater DC region!

Mission Statement:
Greater DC Cares’ Board Leadership Program is an 8-hour training on the roles and responsibilities of serving as a nonprofit board member.  Each participant will engage in seminars focused on: models of board governance, the basic moral and legal obligations of a trustee, financial oversight, and techniques for fundraising, as well as have the opportunity to interact with nonprofit leaders seeking new directors.

Faculty:
•    Dr. Madye Henson, President & CEO, Greater DC Cares
•    Michael Glomb, Partner, Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell LLP
•    Jeffrey J. Schragg, Partner, Argy, Wiltse & Robinson, P.C.
•    Mona Sanders, Organizational Management and Development Consultant

Benefits of service on a nonprofit board:
•    Impacts the community by strengthening nonprofit oversight;
•    Provides valuable networking opportunities;
•    Channels your energy to serve a mission about which you are passionate;
•    Strengthens management skills;
•    Allows you to better understand models of governance;
•    Develops your leadership skills in the community.

Evaluate your interest of serving on a nonprofit board.  Ask yourself the following questions:
•    Can I commit to the mission of an organization?
•    Can I contribute the time necessary to be an effective Board Member?
•    Can I contribute financial support consistent with the organization's expectations?
•    Can I imagine asking my friends to financially support a nonprofit organization?
•    Can I place the organization's purposes and interests above my own professional and personal interests when making decisions as a Board Member?
